Care Instructions

Let’s start off with the most important piece of advice; Never put your cutting board in the dishwasher. Just don’t. It can ruin your cutting board.

Cleaning: To clean your cutting board, we recommend hand washing with soap and warm water, scrubbing if needed. Wipe dry when you’re done.  Yes. It’s that simple.

Conditioning: When your board was made, it was completely soaked in food safe mineral oil and then treated with a board conditioner (mineral oil and beeswax) to help seal it. You may have noticed some oil on the surface when you receive it. This is good and shows that the board absorbed all it could. Keeping a cutting board clean and conditioned keeps the wood from drying out or cracking and limits outside moisture or odors from being absorbed

Occasionally, your board needs to be conditioned. This varied depending on use, but a good rule is, if it looks a little dry, condition it. Board conditioner is recommended, but food grade mineral oil works too. Make sure the board is completely dry. Then, apply the conditioner liberally with paper towels. If it absorbs it quickly, apply more. You really can’t over apply. For best results, let it sit overnight before wiping off any excess to give it time to absorb all it can. Wipe off any remaining excess the next day.

FAQs

Can I use other oils to condition my board?

No. Things like olive oil or other cooking oils expire. Mineral Oil or Board Conditioner is best.

Can I cut raw meats on my board, even chicken? Yep. As long as your board stays conditioned, this is perfectly fine. Your board is basically a hard sponge full of mineral oil. If the oil is in, other things keep out. Just be sure to clean with hot water and soap.
